ZACHARY TAYLOR
(1784-1850) Twelfth President of the United States, "Old Rough and Ready" was also a hero of the Mexican War, taking Monterrey and defeating Santa Anna. Very rare partly-printed D.S. "Z. Taylor as President, 1p. oblong folio, Washington, Jun 19, 1850, a four-language ship's paper for a whaling voyage. The 463 ton ship William Hamilton, based in the port of New Bedford was "...bound for Pacific Ocean and laden with Provisions, stores and utensils for a whaling voyage...". With intact paper seal of the United States and countersigned by JOHN M. CLAYTON as Secretary of State. Documents signed by Taylor as President are very difficult to obtain; this is an excellent example. Usual folds, one which only slightly affects Taylor's signature, a few minor marginal tears, else mostly clean and in fine condition.
