906. ART YOUNG (1866 - 1943) American political cartoonist and social critic, a contributor to the Socialist paper The Masses. An interesting archive of material consisting of approx. 200 A.L.S.'s and T.L.S.'s, all addressed to Young from 1917-1943, with the majority dating between 1932-1938, and covering a host of topics. These include: the election of radical American politicians, prospective ideas for cartoons and illustrations, requests for donations and solicitations for subscriptions to magazines and newspaper, etc. Some of the many correspondents include: MANUEL KOMROFF, MARCY CALLAHAN, JOSEPH PASS, JOHN MACY and MAX EASTMAN, amongst many others. This grouping also contains five letters written by Young, including a series of short notes used in preparation for an article about O. Henry, with a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" caricature of the great poet. Condition varies, very good condition overall. $400 - 600
