YORISADA TOKUGAWA
Yorisada Tokugawa (1892-1954), direct descendant (one of the three Successor Families) of Ieyasu Tokagawa, the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which ruled Japan from 1600 to the 1868 Meiji Period. Yorisada, most infamous for squandering his family's fortune on artistic pursuits and finery, also built Japan's first Western music hall, and, as advisor to the Japanese Military Administration in the Philippines instituted a violent de-anglicizing campaign on behalf of the Co-Prosperity Sphere. An excessively rare grouping of Yorisada relics obtained by Col. Rufus Bratton [of Tora Tora Tora fame] while he served as a military attache in Japan [1922, 1925-26, 1930-33]: 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" 1932 Christmas card bound with blue ribbon, embossed with "Cordinal [sic] Good Wishes for A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year from Marquess and Marioness Tokugawa", with a 2" x 3" b/w inlaid picture of Yorisada and his family in traditional dress; two 3 1/2" x 5 3/4" heavy stock embossed invitation cards (March 28 and December 9) to parties at the Villa Elisa; embossed invitation from the Marchioness Tokugawa inviting guests to the Villa Elisa for the annual Japan Dolls Festival (Hina Matsuri); printed heavy stock invitation, printed entirely in Japanes kanji. All exhibit light toning and some evidence of adhesive on verso (now detached).

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyer's should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
