Description:

XIX CORPS ORDERED TO INVADE EUROPE
Copy of a document, 1p. 4to., ‘Headquarters XIX Corps', [n.d.], labeled ‘RESTRICTED' ordering the American XIX Corps to participate in the invasion of Europe or D-Day. In part: ‘...You are about to join with other American and British soldiers in the invasion of Europe. This is the greatest military operation in the history of the world...The immediate object of the invasion is to secure a base for the attack on Germany itself. We have the best weapons and soldiers in the world. As leaders we must teach our men to kill without being killed. Cool common sense and guts will do the job...The XIX Corps lands after other friendly troops on our right and left... Friendly Airborne troops may also be encountered...On landing clear the beaches rapidly, and push forward to assigned areas. If captured give only name, rank and serial number...' Bears the facsimile signature of Maj. Gen. Charles H. Corlett. Heavy foxing, text remains clear. Sold with an unrelated World War I Western Union telegram regarding the repatriation of a fallen American soldier. Tears throughout resulting in a loss in some of the text at the bottom.
