Description:

WWII 6TH AIRLANDING BRIGADE GLIDER UNIT JACKET
Excellent and rare relic from the Second World War, a brown wool tunic from Britain's Glider Pilot Regiment. The jacket's condition is very good to fine, with the following insignia: light blue Glider Pilot Regiment tabs, the Pegasus patch of the 6th Airborne division, sergeant's stripes, and the coveted Army Flying Badge-- a lion perched on a crown with blue wings. The 6th's divisonal patch establishes the uniform as belonging to a 6th Airlanding Brigade glider pilot, and the sergeant's stripes are to be expected: British glider units were often referred to as "NCO units" because the minimum rank to be in the unit was sergeant. Glider units gained fame for their actions in Normandy, in capturing Pegasus Bridge, OPERATION MARKET GARDEN and OPERATION VARSITY, the large-scale airborne assault on northern Germany. From the personal collection of World War II and Civil War historian Michael Miner. Miner's thirty-year collection was built through an extensive system of contacts he developed with artifact hunters and diggers in Europe and the Far East, and he maintained careful records of the items he amassed.
