Description:

WORLD WAR II SPRINGFIELD M1 GARAND RIFLE
Offered here is an original 1942 M1 Garand rifle, 43.5 in. long, a semiautomatic, .30-cal rifle. Distinctly marked on the left side of the smooth pistol grip stock is a circled serifed ‘P', Springfield ‘S.A./E.McF' inspector cartouche and ‘inverted crossed cannon' stamp. Features a blade front and adjustable peep rear sights, with a ‘BATTLE RANGE' elevation knob, locking bar, and a Springfield ‘S-A-4-42' barrel. The barrel is marked ‘1 S-A-11-42', further marked with an ‘RN' inspection stamp, with the number indicating a manufacturing date of November, 1942. Additional markings appear on the lower receiver ‘R 31/D 28291-17/G' and the bolt ‘D35382 6 SA'. The bolt, trigger housing, hammer, safety and uncut operating rod are all Springfield components. The six-digit serial number ‘992XXX' is stamped on the top rear of the receiver, also marked ‘U.S. RIFLE CAL .30 M1 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY'. This serial number indicates the rifle was manufactured in October of 1942. Although lacking the oiler and barrel cleaner the butt plate and stock exhibits typical trap door and storage pockets. The parkerized finish to the rifle is near perfection, showing only the lightest of wear. Complete with original period brown leather sling with brass fittings, stamped ‘BOYT-42-‘. The sling remains pliable and strong, in excellent condition. The stock is very fine, displaying only some minor scratches and minimal dents throughout. To the best of our knowledge, this rifle is completely original, with no evidence of any replacement parts. A true gem for both World War II and gun collectors, rare to find an example in such near impeccable condition. SOLD WITH four magazine springclips.
