Description:

WORLD WAR II SAILOR'S PHOTO ALBUM WITH JAPANESE ATROCITIES
A fine album of original photographs collected by Donald Austin Lott who served aboard the USS Audrian in the China Crusade, contained within a leather-bound album bearing a great relief of a dragon on cover stamped within "My Oriental Album" that bearing the appropriate warning: "...Within these pages are collected through months of service in China various pictures to keep in mind bygone days...Perhaps some people may not approve of the contents...you are cautioned that you peruse it of your own free will and at your own risk...". Indeed, the album does not disappoint. Among the 58 photographs of routine shots of soldiers aboard the vessel and landscapes of Japan, Hawaii and Guam, are 11 small graphic "souvenir" images of grisly Chinese depredations, including dismembered bodies, Chinese torturing Japanese in the streets, a man still alive with nipples and knees cut off, severed heads, and others. Condition overall very good, with some photos dismounted and bearing glue traces on verso. Content too graphic to be published, please inquire.
