Description:

WORLD WAR II ROYAL AIR FORCE PILOT'S LOGBOOK (COPY)
Photocopy of an R.A.F. Pilot's logbook maintained by Flight Officer A. Bodt[?], lacking any unit information. The approx. 98pp. measure 17 x 12 in., and bear eighteen columns for: aircraft type and number, pilot and second pilot or passenger, duty/remarks, instrument/cloud, and information for single and multi-engine aircrafts. The logbook covers the period from 1939-1956 with details on every one of the many dozens of training and combat flights described. The book shows missions and training with a variety of aircraft, including: Hurricanes, Spitfires, Tutors, and Masters. In 1939 the pilot and his crew mostly underwent extensive training including night flights, instrument training, etc. The training led up to their missions at Duxford and Dunkirk, where they participated in the evacuation of more than 338,000 Allied soldiers known as Operation Dynamo, shooting down ME109s, ME110s, and ME111s. Later that year a ‘Campbell' whose name had been mentioned earlier in the book was killed in action attacking a Dornier Do 17. The log traces the unidentified squadron's advance across France along with the destruction of thirty EAs in 1944. The entries continue long after the war, until 1956, though, with less detail. A great reference worthy of further research.
