Description:

Lot of three German and Allied propaganda leaflets, includes: two German leaflets, 2pp. 7 x 9 in., both a ‘confidential' SHAEF copy and stapled at the four corners. One shows a fallen Allied soldier on the battlefield, the image of his forlorn sweetheart in the background, and reading: ‘Waiting – in vain'. The message on the verso reads in part: ‘...She wanted to spend her life in peace and happiness by the side of her husband...NOW HE WILL NEVER COME BACK!...What about the girl you love?...', the other depicting a large skeleton, its head with the likeness of President Roosevelt, holding a sickle over marching American troops. The speech bubble at the top reads: ‘I assure you again and again and again that no American boys will be sacrificed on foreign battlefields. Franklin D. Roosevelt Oct. 31, 1940'. On the verso are seven rows of the phrase ‘I assure you...', question marks on either side. WITH a leaflet released by the Allied Forces, 2pp. 10 x 8.5 in., titled ‘Propaganda und Wirklichkeit' (‘Propaganda and Reality'), with two photos, the one on the left showing high-ranking Nazi officials inspecting the Atlantic Wall and the other depicting American troops travelling inland during the Normandy invasion. Beneath the left photo is a quote from Hitler: ‘I can assure Churchill that no matter where he chooses to launch the second front, he will be lucky if he stays on land for nine hours.' The text under the Normandy photo explains that the photograph was taken nine hours after the first Normandy landings. On the verso are three similar messages in Polish, German, and Russian, all offering asylum to their native peoples. Three pieces, else very good.
