Description:

German 1943 production K98 Mauser, serial number 7407C. This example has apparently been been reblued and the stock has been refinished, or at least varnished. A vandal has used a metal pencil or other inscribing tool to 'add' the serial number '7407' to other parts on the rifle, with at least two numbers not matching. The chamber bears two waffenamt inspection stamps, one being the eagle '125' approval above the production code 'byf' indicating Mauser factory production, with a '43' indicating the date of production. No cleaning rod or leather sling present. The cupped butt plate looks to be a flat replacement piece. The bolt action on this rifle is smooth, with no hang-ups, the safety operable. Decent example of an iconic rifle, estimated accordingly.
