WORLD WAR II AIR FORCE GENERALS AND AVIATORS (9)
A group of nine items signed by generals and aces with World War II service, in different formats (noted). Includes: CHARLES BORN (1903-1979) USAAF major general, deputy commander of the 15th Air Force. Signature on a postal cover canceled Nov. 30, 1946; ANN CARL (1918-2008) Aviator, a WASP test pilot and the first woman to fly a jet, the Bell YP-59A in Oct. 1944. Signature on a card; LEWIS H. BRERETON (1890-1967) U.S. Air Force General during World War I and an aviation pioneer. Signature on a card adding rank, light ink smearing; BERNT BALCHEN (1899-1973) American polar explorer who was active during World War II with Scandinavian Allies. Signature on verso of his calling card. Heavy mounting remains to recto; GEORGE H. BRETT (1886-1963) Air Force general who served in World War I, led U.S. forces in Australia before the arrival of Douglas MacArthur in World War II, then commanded the U.S. Caribbean Defense Command. Signature on his personal postal cover; R. G. GREENE, Major General. A.N.S. at bottom of a war-date T.L.S. from a World War I veteran wishing for his signature and adding: ‘…wishing you success with your command and an early victory for the Allied Armed Forces…'. Beneath, Breene adds a note with rank; FOLLET BRADLEY (1890-?) USAAF major general and a veteran of both world wars. T.L.S. on letterhead of ‘Sperry Gyroscope Company', 1p. 8vo., Great Neck, NY, Apr. 25, 1946, sending forms for membership to the New York Chapter of The Military Order of the World Wars; JAMES E. BRIGGS (1906-1979) Air Force general and Superintendent of the Air Force Academy. Bold signature on ‘Department of the Air Force' letterhead, dated in another hand July 10, 1954; and FRED S. BORUM (1892-1978) Brigadier general, served in both the European and Mediterranean theatres then oversaw the postwar conversion of the Tinker Air Force Base. Fine I.S.P. 8 x 10 in. b/w, shows Borum in uniform, inscribed and signed in white ink at lower left. Nine pieces, overall very good.
