Description:

WORLD WAR II ‘OPERATION BODYGUARD' DECEPTION PLANNERS
A rare group of three letters from the team who created the greatest military deception of World War II, 'Operation Bodyguard', the successful plot to conceal from the Nazis the D-Day landings in Normandy. All letters are directed to Denis Wheatley, British novelist and former deception planner. Includes a T.L.S. of JOHN BEVAN (1894–1978) British officer who masterminded the plot, 1p. 8vo., Apr. 17, 1968, inviting him to an L.C.S. dinner, and mentioning other officers involved in the plot. Together with an A.L.S. of Derrick Morley, unidentified plotter, ca. 1964, sending friendly content, and one other A.L.S., not identified by us. Three pieces, very good. The overall aim of the operation was to lead the Germans to believe that an invasion of northwest Europe would come later than was planned and to expect attacks elsewhere, including the Pas-de-Calais, the Balkans, southern France, Norway and Soviet attacks in Bulgaria and northern Norway.
