WORLD WAR I MEMORABILIA (3)
Lot of three World War I relics, including: Pair of British army Mk V pattern wire cutters, 11 in. long, maker marked on the right handle ‘WOLSELEY 1915' followed by the broad arrow mark; condiment can, 2.5 x 7 in., coffee, salt, pepper, etc. The interior is divided in half to carry more than one condiment or spice. Marked on one end '66 D' Heavy oxidation has diminished the original bright tin plating, resulting in a dark grey color; and a U.S. standard issue M1 Garand canvas cartridge belt, 36 in. long, featuring ten ammo pouches. The first and last pouch are marked on the inside of the flap, but the text is largely faded. On the reverse one brass fixture is marked ‘PATENTED MILLS JULY 16 '07 – MAY 18 ‘15' with the other reading ‘MADE BY MILLS WOVEN CARTIDGE BELT CO. WORCESTER MASS. U.S.A.'. The reverse of the belt is again maker marked by ‘MILLS' and dated ‘July 1918'. Additionally suspended from the belt is another pouch, 6 x 3.5 in., dated ‘Aug. 1918'. Some patina to the hardware, else fine. Three pieces.
