Description:

WOODROW WILSON
(1856 - 1924) Twenty-eighth President of the United States who passed sweeping reform laws, gave women the right to vote, and led the United States through World War I setting the ground work for the League of Nations. Fine content T.L.S. as President, 2pp. 8vo., Washington, Sept. 30, 1914, writing to Senator John Kern of Indiana regarding the reelection of Senator Aaron B. Shively, a Democrat good friend of Wilson. In part: "...I am genuinely surprised that any question should have arisen as to whether I want Senator Shively returned. I do most decidedly wish it. I have admired Senator Schively's steadfast devotion to duty and to the standards of the party and his unfaltering loyalty in all matters of public policy, as all his party associates have, and have learned to have a very warm personal feeling and admiration for him. It would in my judgment be a very great loss to the party and to the Senate if he should not be reelected. I trust that there is no doubt of his reelection. May I not add a word of cordial appreciation of the whole Indiana delegation in Congress? The members of the House have stood by the administration with unfailing generosity and spirit...". Signature slightly blurred, else very good condition.
