Description:

WOMEN OF THE KKK SWORD
A scarce ceremonial sword, 28 in. blade, 36.5 in. overall, used by female officers of the WKKK, the affiliated but Women's Ku Klux Klan which was formed for specifically Protestant women. This sword resembles the more commonly-seen ‘male' versions but lacks the mounted Klansman plaque on the bright metal crossguard. Instead, the plaque is slightly less bulky and bears the ‘KKK' lettering one one side, with a geometric pattern on the other. The pommel is crafted in the shape of a knight's plumed helmet, also a bit smaller than the ‘male' version, and blade is slightly narrower as well. The sword is housed in a matte black-painted steel scabbard with a steel scabbard button. Unmarked, and likely dates from the Klan resurgence of the 1920s. The blade shows some very light running marks, and the scabbard is missing a few chips of paint, else very good to fine. Despite the fact that the WKKK did not participate in the violent and more visible activities of their male counterparts, it did exert considerable influence through anti-Catholic civic initiatives and by insinuating themselves into schools, charitable and social work, and campaigning for pro-Klan politicians and civil servants.
