Description:

(WOLFRAM SIEVERS) SIEVERS IS CONDEMNED BY HIS FIANCEE
(1905 - 1948) Nazi doctor and SS officer, headed the Institute for Military Scientific Research, largely concerned with efficiency of executions. and mass murders. Executed for crimes against humanity. Contemporary typed text of a fine content letter sent to Sievers by his fiancee Madelaine Oehmigen, 1p. 4to., Ilmenau, Nov. 9, 1946, during the trial of Sievers for war crimes. Oehmigen writes an emotional letter to her imprisoned husband, stating that she has been thinking a great deal about him in the last few days now that she has the details of his cross examination. In part: "...Now I cannot hide the truth from myself - some guilt attaches to you. At first, you disclaimed all knowledge, and then hesitatingly admitted that you had been aware of many experiments. And then the evidence of what you had put on paper, which showed more than mere awareness. I have a great respect for the sciences, but they cannot be pushed as far as that, they really can't...One has to have the courage to look the truth in the face; you have to do it first in the privacy of your own conscience, and then in front of the judge...Your letters have a ring of spiritual pride, to which you have always somewhat inclined; you should cast it away. Will you be unhappy, Wolfram, over this letter? Or do you feel in it the expression of my feelings as a friend, which will always, always, remain with you?..." Fine.
