Description:

WOLF-DIETRICH WILCKE
(1913 – 1944) Luftwaffe pilot, a fighter ace credited with 162 enemy aircraft shot down in 732 combat missions. He claimed the majority of his victories over the Eastern Front, and 25 over the Western Front, including four four-engined bombers. A recipient of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords, he was killed in an engagement over Braunschweig. Very rare war-date partly-printed D.S., 4pp. 4to., Gladbach, Jan. 18, 1941. As captain and group commander of III/JG 53, Wilke signs a fitness report issued for Reserve Lt. Herbert Schramm. He finds that Schramm is 'a bit slack' in his personal attitude, has 'impeccable' behavior towards superiors, is a fine pilot, and sums up considering Schramm as 'average'. Folds with file holes in left margin, else very good, sold with a period Hoffmann portrait photograph. HERBERT SCHRAM (1913–1943) would prove no slacker.. He would become and ace with 42 aerial victories claimed in 480 combat missions, posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves following his death while intercepting bombers en route to Cologne when his parachute failed to deploy. Two pieces.
