Description:

WINFIELD SCOTT
(1786 - 1866) American general, a hero during the War of 1812. Commanded the U.S. Army from 1841 through the Mexican and Civil Wars. A presidential candidate in 1852. Superb D.S., 10pp. legal folio, Washington, Oct. 25, 1841, a signed printed letter to his many supporters setting forth all of his personal and political views, sent to those who requested that he run for office. Scott covers, everything: repeal of alien and sedition laws, the judiciary, veto powers, population growth, his desire that a president be limited to one term, land distribution, secret societies, etc. At conclusion, Scott pens: "An Extra. Winfield Scott". Some soiling to last page, otherwise very good.
