He escaped the hangman, dying just before war's end. War-date D.S. as brigadier general, 1p. 12mo., Richmond, Sep. 17, 1863 to a Capt. Turner asking that Capt. McNeill be allowed to see prisoners brought in a day earlier. Some paper loss affecting location, tears into center of document affect text but with no loss there, mounted, with a fine signature.
