Description:

WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 RIFLE
Lever-action Winchester Model 1873 repeating rifle, 23 1/2" barrel, 43" overall, chambered for .38 caliber Winchester Center Fire ammunition. The rifle features a loading gate on the right-hand side, and can carry 15 rounds. The barrel is round from the muzzle to the stock, after which it becomes octagonal. The top of the barrel is marked "Winchester''s Repeating Arms New Haven Conn. U.S.A., King''s Improvement Patented March 29, 1866 October 16, 1860", with the caliber ".38 W.C.F." at the breech end. The underside of the brass breech block is inscribed ".38 Cal.", and the name of the model, "Model 1873", is inscribed on the top tang. The serial number "421200B" is inscribed on the bottom tang, behind the trigger, indicating that this example was manufactured in 1891. A compartment in the butt would have held a cleaning rod, not present in this example. The metal bears a dull grey patina overall, and the bore is dark with strong rifling evident, and a small amount of pitting. The hammer will not remain at the full-cock position, either when manually cocked or when cocked by the lever. Therefore the gun will not fire properly. Sold as-is.
