Description:

WILLIAM PRESCOTT
(1726 – 1795) American colonel in the Revolutionary War who commanded the rebel forces in the Battle of Bunker Hill. Prescott became widely attributed for the famous quote, "Do not fire until you see the whites of their eyes." After the battle, his militia unit was adopted into the newly created Continental Army, and he was commissioned the colonel of what became the 7th Continental Regiment. The regiment was active in the battles for New York City in 1776 and the Saratoga Campaign of 1777. Rare Partly-printed D.S. "Wm. Prescott", 1p. legal folio, Middlesex Co., May 9, 1767, a deed acknowledging receipt of 400 pounds paid by "Oliver Prescott of Groton" converting a parcel of land that had belonged to their father. Expertly silked on verso, toned at bottom with a few marginal chips, still very good. ABPC records no sales of William Prescott in the past 25 years. Ex: Kenneth Rendell, 1972.
