Description:

(1765 - 1837) King of the British Empire from 1830 until his death, third son of George III, nicknamed the 'Sailor King' for his service in the Royal Navy during his youth. Manuscript D.S., 2pp. legal folio, London, April 8, 1837, a warrant to the Commissioners of the Treasury ordering them to pay a pension of 50 pounds to Navy Capt. Francis Beaufort, Lestock Wilson, and their survivors. He further explains it is to be paid: ‘...Quarterly free and clear of all taxes and deductions whatsoever...'. William signs the document ‘William R' at the header of the first page, with three counter signatures at the conclusion. The bottom piece of the document has been cleanly cut away, not interfering with the text. There is an ‘X' across the text, and it has been marked ‘cancelled' on the left margin. Slight tears at the edges along the folds which have been repaired, else fine.
