WILLIAM III (1650 - 1702) King of England, Ireland and the Scots, his reign marked the beginning of the transition from the personal rule of the Stuarts to the more Parliament-centered rule of the House of Hanover. His reign saw the conflict over royal and parliamentary power which led to the Glorious Revolution of 1688, the containment of the French, and the funding of the College of William and Mary. Rare manuscript D.S. "William R." as King, 1p. sm. folio parchment, 14 1/2" x 8", [London?], Aug. 25, 1696, an appointment of Richard Hamaker to serve as Lieutenant in a Regiment of Foot, under the command of Colonel William Seymour. Signature light but entirely legible, moderate foxing, especially at right, still entirely acceptable.
