Description:

(1773 - 1841) Ninth President of the United States, military hero at Tippecanoe Creek and against Tecumseh, died after one month in office. HARRISON ARGUES HIS PROPERTY TAXES A.D.S. "Will'm H. Harrison" as 2nd Secretary of the Northwest Territory under Gov. Arthur St. Clair, 1p. legal folio, Hamilton Co., Sep. 13, 1799 to the county commissioners. In part: "...I have been taxed by the assessor of the township I live in for one hundred & forty acres of improved land in the am't of 10.50 when the same ought to have been divided...At any rate that it should be so arranged that the sum of 10 50/100 Dollars should be only paid for the 140 acres which are the joint property of Mr. Short & myself. As I am also taxed with 542 acres more than I have it is probably meant that I should pay for all the land in other townships [than] the one I live in...the commissioners will [?] to see that I am not taxed in the Cincinnati township for the land I hold there..." Folds and some light toning, some thin mounting strips on verso, else very good.
