(1819 – 1875) Union brigadier general, participated in the Battle of Antietam, where he commanded the V Corps Reserve Artillery, and commanded the II Corps following Hancock's wounding at Gettysburg. A.D.S. 1p. 4to., New York, Apr. 15, 1864, writing to ORISON BLUNT (1815-1879), an inventor and businessman who, as a prominent Republican who supported the Lincoln administration, worked with his usual political opponent, Tammany Hall leader William Tweed, to quell New York City's 1863 draft riots. A statement of the number of men raised under the call for 500,000 men, noting a deficiency of ‘5,649'. Small marginal tear, otherwise fine.
