Description:

WILLIAM H. BEARD
(1825-1900) American satirical artist best remembered as the creator of the painting The Bulls and Bears in the Market (1879). Scarce A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo., [n.p.], Jan. 23, 1892, to "Bro. Moore", in part: "...So many donations to good objects are monumental, tied up and bound with the donor's name that an unlabeled gift to the running expenses of the Kingdom of X, receives a warm welcome in the hands of men & must also be of Him who has commanded us in the doing of our alms to sink ourselves behind them & not permit our left hand to know what our right hand is doing. Your fellow church member, from the hint of his character in your note, I take to be a man who will care more for my sincere thanks than a multitude of words. Perhaps it will please him to know that his money will be invested in the Christian education of boys...". Very good.
