(1818 - 1879) Union brigadier general who served as Chief of Artillery for McDowell and was with Sherman on the March to the Sea. Post-war A.L.S. adding rank, 3pp. 8vo., Fort Monroe, Dec. 6, 1868, to Gen. W. E. Strong, in part: '…Thanks for your favor of 2 copies of the printed programme of the approaching 'Army Reunion'…I wrote to you about a fortnight ago to say that I would be present…rain or shine, although…I shall have to travel many miles to accomplish it. As I have not the honor to belong to either of the Societies but go to Chicago as the Chief of Artillery of the Grand Army which was composed of all of them and on the invitation of Genl. Sherman and do not know where to report…I therefore ask you of the favor to mention to the proper Committee and also to Genl. Webster & to Genl. Ezra Taylor that I am to be present…'. Boldly penned and near fine.
