WILLIAM C. HANDY
(1873-1958) American musician and composer considered "Father of the Blues", composer of "Memphis Blues" and "St. Louis Blues". Fine content T.L.S. on Handy Brothers Music Co. letterhead, 1p. 4to., New York, Feb. 23, 1949 to a friend. In part: "...A Negro History Week is observed...I have done my share...I got a big hand after trumpeting 'ST. LOUIS BLUES' and singing 'MEMPHIS BLUES'...March issue of 'Holiday' magazine...immortalized the Blues and William C. Handy is its hero...we are trying to make this music known through you...". He concludes with an anecdote about a fellow musician who traded his services for a barbecue - and then discovered he could not carry both his barbecue and his bass fiddle. Fine.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry.
