WILLIAM BLACKSTONE
(1723 - 1780) English jurist, judge, and Tory politician, most noted for writing the Commentaries on the Laws of England as well as other legal treatises. In the United States, the Commentaries influenced Alexander Hamilton, John Marshall, James Wilson, John Jay, John Adams, James Kent, and Abraham Lincoln, and remain frequently cited in Supreme Court decisions. Excessively rare franked docketed address leaf in Blackstone's hand [1766], addressed to 'Thomas Walker Esq Begbrook near Woodstock Oxon' Blackstone has written 'Free' and signed 'W. Blackstone' in the lower-left corner of the folded cover. Lightly soiled with worn folds, one small hole above the recipient's name as well as minor loss due to seal tears, expertly silked for preservation. With period engraving. Ex: Paul Richards, 1971. Blackstone is very rare in any form.
