WILLIAM ALEXANDER (LORD STIRLING)
(1726 - 1783) Revolutionary War General captured at the Battle of Long Island, later served under Washington at Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth. Large, bold signature "Stirling", cut from a document and mounted to a handsome 5 1/2" x 9" b/w engraving of Stirling. The print notes that the original engraving was done by G.H. Hall and was printed by N. Pate. Lightly toned with foxing, else fine.
