Description:

WILHELM KREIS
(1873 - 1955) German architect and professor of architecture. The Nazis dismissed Kreis from the presidency of the League of German Architects, but under Speer's direction he drafted war projects in Dresden and the gigantic plans for Berlin, notably the design for the massive Soldiers Hall. Employing the respected Kreis brought Speer some legitimacy; Kreis responded by becoming an active supporter of National Socialism. A bound catalog and description of his works, ‘Wilhelm Kreis' by Hans Stephan (Oldenburg: Gerhard Stalling Verlag), 1944. 96pp. 8vo., with fold-out map of the proposed massive ‘Soldiers' Hall', paper boards with dust cover. The first flyleaf bears a lengthy signed presentation inscription to HEINRICH HIMMLER, with a forward by Albert Speer. Kreis' Jan. 3, 1944 inscription to Himmler asks for financial support so that Kreis may continue in his Berlin projects. Some wear to the dust cover, else very good.
