'Keppler' on his personal Reich Commissioner of Austria letterhead, 1p. legal folio, Vienna, March 22, 1938, to Gauleiter Josef Burckel (1895-1944) regarding his newly occupied post. In part: '...I have arrived in Vienna to take up my work here. I am in the process of setting up my office...I hope that I can have a conversation with you as soon as possible. I have just received the following communication from the Foreign Office, and I would be grateful if in the interest of foreign policy you would consent to interventions in companies...only in really urgent cases.' Included with the original message he references from the Foreign Office, which contains a request from the Italian government, reading in part: 'It is well known that Italy did everything politically in the Austrian affair to provide assistance to the German Reich...Today it asks for the time being to refrain from measures...against Italian companies, especially insurance companies, which would...have an unfavorable effect in Italy...Foreign Minister von Ribbentrop asked the competent local authorities to comply...' File holes at the left margin, otherwise fine condition.
