WILHELM KEITEL
(1882 - 1946) German field marshal and army chief of staff under Adolf Hitler, convicted of war crimes and executed at Nuremburg. War-date D.S., 1p. 8vo., 'Headquarters', Jan. 24, 1942, the award of the War Merit Cross with Swords, 1st Class to Staff Dr. Werner Koppell. Tipped to a sheet, fine. Sold with several additional documents concerning Koppel, including: HELLMUTH REYMANN (1892-1988), German lieutenant general, he suffered massive troop losses in the Courland Pocket. Most remembered as one of the last defenders of Berlin, he signed over 2,000 passes for high-level Nazis who sought to flee the city, describing them as 'armchair warriors', a war-date D.S., 1p. 8vo., Dec. 7, 1940, awarding Koppell the War Merit Cross with Swords, 2nd Class; a similar award of the West Wall Medal, signed by an unknown officer; an award of a Four Year Service Cross; Koppel's military service 'Truppenausweis', and two Prussian documents, untranslated. Overall very good to fine condition.
