604. WILHELM II (1859 - 1941) "Kaiser Wilhelm", Emperor of Germany and King of Prussia, a socially progressive ruler whose reign ended with Germany's defeat in World War I. Fine content A.L.S. "Guillaume" 2pp. 8vo., Cassel, Aug. 17, 1902, in French on black-bordered mourning letterhead to la Comtesse Griffith, regarding the death of his mother. In part: "...I am very touched by the lines...It was expected for a long time but the blow which hits us is no less painful...The void in the family is terrible especially if one cannot call oneself any more after the 'the child'...But the death delivered my dear Mother from a painful life without limits. In our great sorrow we must be thankful for the Lord that he delivered the poor sufferer from a terrible sickness...". Boldly penned, with the original holograph envelope which bears on verso a fantastic black wax seal. Near fine condition. $200 - 300
