Description:

(1899 - 1990) German general, recipient of the Knight's Cross, and commander of the 31st Infantry Division on the Eastern Front. Ochsner surrendered to the Red Army in the course of Operation Bagration, then was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for war crimes against the Soviet Union. Good grouping of four signed items, includes: Pair of post-war S.P.s, each approx. 3.5 x 5.5 in. b/w, each portraits of Ochsner in uniform. Ochsner signs both on the verso in blue ink, adding 'Munchen...2.VIII.1960' to one of them. WITH: War-date black ink signature on a thick card, likely removed from a booklet or a similar object, also bearing his hand-inked Feldpost Number. The verso of the card bears an imprinted '1944', and shows evidence of previous mounting. WITH: A.L.S. on his postwar personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Munich, June 11,1960, to an American researcher. In part: '...I don't own any war-time picture of myself as General...I don't possess documents, letters, correspondence of the years 1914 - 1945, which interest you, and can't acquire them...whatever I owned was taken from me against a 'receipt' by a Russian General on
18.XI.1945 at the prison Budirskaja in Moscow during my imprisonment in Russia (from June 1944 to October 1955) together with my medals and insignia, disregarding international law...the Russian authorities did not respond to my inquiries regarding their return. I know von Papen and Blumentritt...' Mailing fold, else fine.
