Description:

(1894 - 1979) General of the Waffen-SS who commanded the SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer in rear security operations ('bandit fighting') in the Soviet Union. Important partly-printed D.S., 2pp. 4to., 'Generalkommando II.SS-Panzer-Korps', Sep. 27, 1944, a 'Personnel Application' sent to the SS Personnel Office requesting that SS-Standartenfuhrer Friedrich-Wilhelm Bock be promoted to the rank of SS-Oberfuhrer. The verso of the document beards Bock's service record, including mention of the fact that he had been awarded the Knights Cross. Above his signature, Bittner notes: '...With his in-depth knowledge and clear leadership with limited resources, he has made a decisive contribution to [our] success...' File and staple holes affect nothing, else very good. FRIEDRICH-WILHELM BOCK (1897-1978) served as a Waffen-SS commander and led three SS divisions, the SS Division Hohenstaufen, 4th SS Polizei Division, and Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (2nd Latvian). Four days after this document was prepared, Bock would assume command of the 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen which he would lead for a month during its retreat through Normandy.
