"Thornton Wilder", 2pp., 8vo., Edgertown, Mass., June 24, 1974. Near the end of his life, Wilder writes to his German publishing agent Lucy Tal, in part: "...Delighted to hear from you. Vienna remains one of my favorite cities; and during my first visit there I am indebted to you and to Peter Tal for many first encounters; and meeting Gruenheimer and Felix Salten [author of Bambi] and many others. I have no memory of those details of changing to the Fischer Verleg [publishing company] - I am glad that I was able to do something for you in those days of Temperance of rights...But now I am very contented with Herr Mercy and Herr Haertling. Herlitschka was a splendid translator but a very leicht beleidigt man; I think all translators are. I wish to return to Germany this year to attend the meeting of the Pour G...but my health is poor (half blind, long convalescence from a spilled disk; and some respiration trouble)...".
