Description:

WHITE SUPREMACIST MAGAZINE ‘THE CROSS AND THE FLAG' ADDRESSES THE WATTS RIOTS
Vile Civil Rights-era racist and antisemitic periodical, ‘The Cross and the Flag', No. 8, Vol. 24, [Glendale, CA: Christian Nationalist Crusade], Nov. 1965, published by Gerald L. K. Smith, white supremacist and Christian Nationalist founder of the far-right America First Party during World War II, and later the Christian Identity movement. The cover bears the title ‘53 Facts Concerning Los Angeles Race Riots', referring to that year's Watts riots, with the second page featuring the breathless headline ‘Guerrilla Warfare in Los Angeles – Black Revolution Launched – 21,000 Troops And Officers Required to Save Whites from Wholesale Slaughter'. The accompanying article goes on to list Smith's ‘facts' surrounding the riots, including such delusions as ‘Imagine, if you can, a fireman climbing a ladder to extinguish a blaze being shot off that ladder by a Black', and ‘Passenger planes coming into the International Airport were compelled to change their routings because they were being fired on by Black snipers.' Smith further attacks Martin Luther King, Jr. actor Dick Gregory, L.A. mayor Sam Yorty, California governor Pat Brown and Senator William Fulbright, while praising such notable racists as Strom Thurmond. An article beginning on the rear cover and continuing inside, titled ‘The Triple Conspiracy', accuses ‘Organized Jewry and the left wing enterprises which are subject to Jewish leadership, Jewish finance and mindwashing, manipulated by the Jew-controlled press, radio and television' of fomenting a ‘black revolution', ‘Sabotag[ing] and undermin[ing] the masculine, traditional military policy of the United States…', and seeking to ‘Outlaw, belittle and evaporate in general the name, influence and message of Jesus Christ…' Much more similar content – if you can stomach it. Toned on the covers, with a 2 in. tear to the rear cover, else very good.
