1516. JAMES MCNEIL WHISTLER (1834 - 1903) American artist, a portrait painter with a pugnacious attitude best remembered for the portrait of his mother seated in a rocker. A superb Whistler piece, a signed photograph of his painting "Nocturne - Grey and Gold Chelsea - Snow", 10" x 7" (with mat, 20" x 15"), showing a lone figure crossing a dimly-lit street. Very nicely signed beneath the image on mat in pencil "Whistler" and adding his ornate "butterfly" paraph. In near fine condition, ideal for framing. $700 - 900
