WHEELER'S CAVALRY ORDER ON HOW TO SPOT A DESERTER
Rare Confederate war-date printed broadside titled "Head Quarters, Wheeler's Cavalry Corps. March 14, 1863. General Order #4", measuring 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" (sight), outlining ten responsibilities to cavalry commanders for roll calls and guidelines for declaring a soldier a deserter. In part: "...Hereafter five (5) Roll calls shall be held each day...Any enlisted man absent from three consecutive Roll calls, without written permission from his Brigade commander of other competent authority, will be considered a deserter...All men, who by the provisions of this order are considered deserters, will be arrested...", and so forth. Handsomely matted with a brass plaque and set into a carved gilt frame. Light foxing, otherwise very good condition. Unexamined out of frame.
