Description:

WETHERSFIELD, CONNECTICUT FAILS TO SHOW UP IN COURT...AND LOSES 100 ACRES OF LAND!
A fascinating early Connecticut document, 1p. legal folio, Hartford, Oct. 3, 1710, a "true copy" of a court decision in which Nathanael Hooker, a state legislator, is awarded one hundred acres "...of the Commons, or undivided wilderness land" held by the Town of Wethersfield, as the town and its repersentatives had failed to appear in court after having been noticed three times. Additionally, the town is held liable for Hooker's legal fees and court costs. A small chip at top costs two words of text, else very good. Wethersfield is a historic town: Washington and Rochambeau planned the battle of Yorktown there, and four witch trials and three executions for witchcraft occurred in the town in the 17th century.
