Lot 1724
Description:
1724. ORSON WELLES An unusual item, an envelope completely addressed in his hand to a lifelong friend Leonard Lyons, columnist for The New York Post. Wells has signed the addressee portion of the envelope ALFRED DRAKE, his pseudonym. The "real" Drake was an actor/baritone singer who portrayed Welles in a 1939 film. It is said that Welles was less than flattered by Drake's portrayal! Accompanied by a June 14, 1941 telegram to Lyons, sent at the height of his success with Citizen Kane, reading: "Dear Lennie: Terribly concerned you and King features split over Welles. Please let me know what goes on. Regards Drake". Very good. $200-300
