Description:

Excellent German general's visor cap, constructed from gray wool with an unusually high peak - typical for general's visor caps - with gold wire piping, a green wool side band, and matching chin cord and side buttons. The front of the cap bears a gold-washed aluminum eagle and cockade insignia, the eagle showing an even patina yet the cockade insignia remaining bright. The gold bullion piping remains in good condition, save for the occasional loose thread. The interior is fitted with a light black faux leather sweat band, stamped on the interior side: 'RV458'. The rest of the cap is lined with cream-colored rayon. The sweat shield is present and virtually untouched, bearing a maker's mark of J. Scheitterer of Ingolstadt and the size '59'. The liner shows no sweat stains, yet the sweatband is heavily torn with some paint cracking. The cockade insignia remains slightly larger on the cap than similar examples, potentially a replacement. Very good condition.
