Description:

WEHRMACHT GENERAL''S UNIFORM TUNIC, BREECHES AND VISOR CAP
A fine ensemble, the uniform tunic, breeches, and visor cap of an unidentified German General of the Wehrmacht and Knight''s Cross winner. The tunic is constructed of fine forest-green wool, with eight fire-gilt buttons at front, a gold bullion national eagle insignia at the right-hand breast and bullion staff officer''s collar tabs. Each shoulder bears a braided bullion shoulder strap with two rank pips. Two buttons are installed under the collar to retain a neck-worn award, most likely the Knight''s Cross, while an Eastern Front Medal ribbon is affixed to the third button. Loops for additional medal bars appear on the right-hand breast. The interior of the tunic is lined with green silk, and bears no pockets or identifying labels; however, it is fitted with an unusual wide, hooked belly band. The visor cap is constructed from the same forest-green wool material as the tunic, and features an unusually high peak with gold wire piping with matching chin cord and side buttons, and with gold-washed aluminum eagle and cockade insignia, all showing an even patina. The interior is fitted with a light brown leather sweatband with a gray wool hinge, and is lined with cream-colored rayon. The sweat shield is absent, and the lining shows some minor stains. The breeches are constructed of field gray wool, with side-buckle adjustments and buttoned pockets. Each leg bears a three-piece red wool stripe, with button closures at each cuff. Each piece shows slight and even wear from use, with no apparent mothing, very good to fine overall.
