Description:

"WEEGEE" CRIME SCENE PHOTO
ARTHUR FELLIG (1899-1968) Photographer and photojournalist better known as "Weegee", known for his stark black and white street photography. Weegee worked in the Lower East Side of New York City as a press photographer during the 1930s and ''40s, and he developed his signature style by following the city''s emergency services and documenting their activity. Much of his work depicted unflinchingly realistic scenes of urban life, crime, injury and death. Original silver gelatin photograph, 4" x 5 1/4" b/w, depicting what appears to be a murder scene in a general store, with the victim''s legs visible behind the corner of a counter, surrounded by various goods. The verso bears a black ink backstamp reading: "Please Credit Weegee from Photo-Representatives". The photo shows some slight silvering in the dark areas, with slight surface soiling, else very good.
