WATERGATE HEROES AND VILLAINS Outstanding, large collection of letters, photographs and signatures of heroes and villains (depending on one's perspective!) from the infamous break-in at the Watergate complex and its aftermath which led to the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon. Included in this vast collection is the following: a collector's 1973 letter to SAM ERVIN, JR. signed at the bottom by all nine members of the Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities which undertook what came to be called the "Watergate Hearings", with a T.L.S. by Ervin sending the signed letter, DONALD SEGRETTI A.L.S. 1979 hoping history will place the "Watergate escapade" in its proper perspective; DWIGHT CHAPIN D.S., copy of a memo re: Nixon campaign and his adversaries; JOHN DEAN S.P. from a newspaper; E. HOWARD HUNT D.S., 4pp. 8vo., signed testimony; JOHN D. EHRLICHMAN signed White House envelope; JOHN MITCHELL signed White House envelope; BERNARD BARKER D.S., signed testimony; JAMES W. MCCORD signed testimony sent to Judge John Sirica and a signature on a card; G. GORDON LIDDY signed envelope, possibly from prison, PETER RODINO T.L.S. 1974 sends his autograph and a signed photo (included); JOHN J. SIRICA T.L.S. 1973 thanks for remarks "concerning my remarks in the Watergate decision"; JOHN DOAR T.L.S. 1974 sending his autograph; ROBERT RINAN D.S., a copy of the House Resolution to impeach Nixon; HOWARD BAKER S.P., LEON JAWORSKI T.L.S. 1974 sending his autograph, ARCHIBALD COX two T.L.S.'s 1973 sending his autograph and declining to send a photo; HERMAN TALMADGE S.P. and 1973 T.L.S. sending his autograph; RICHARD BEN-VENISTE T.L.S. 1981, thanks for a letter; signed photos of DANIEL INOUYE (2), EDWARD GURNEY, and LOWELL WEICKER, postal covers signed by ROSE MARY WOODS, H. R. HALDEMAN, BOB WOODARD and CARL BERNSTEIN, and signatures on cards of HUGH W. SLOAN, JR., JEB STUART MAGRUDER, JOHN SIRICA, HARRY S. DENT, PHILIP W. BUCHEN, LEON JAWORSKI, and ARCHIBALD COX. With some autopen examples of other Watergate notables. Overall very good to fine condition. This would be a nearly impossible collection to assemble today, and a great assemblage for the political collector. $700-900
