Description:
(War Of 1812 "Dear John" Letter A.L.S. 4pp. sm. folio, Portsmouth, Nh, Aug. 20 [1814] A lady writes a long, bizarre and angry letter to her ex-sweetheart Lt. P. Pelham, dumping him! In part: Why are not honorable men, those useful, those valiant, in, or on their way to Canada if they mean anything, instead of wasting a whole summer and autumn in lazy parade and empty noise... Oh, shame!... eating, drinking, feasting, and we may modestly say, carousing... such a man will not do for me...." Very good.
