Description:

WAR-DATE SIGNED PRESENTATION TO GEN. KENNETH W. STRONG
KENNETH W. STRONG (1900 - 1982) British major general who rose to become Director General of Intelligence. He commanded the 4th/5th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1941, before becoming Brigadier General Staff for Intelligence at Home Forces in 1942. In March 1943, Strong was appointed Eisenhower's Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence. In May 1944 he joined SHAEF and played a leading part in the negotiations for the unconditional surrender of Germany in 1945. Excellent presentation war-date poster, 28 x 22 in., signed by approx. 110 British and American G-1 and G-2 officers, given to Strong at Allied Force Headquarters in North Africa, Dec. 25, 1945. Members of the G-2 section present Strong with Christmas congratulations on his promotion to major general, as stated in a T.L.S. affixed to the center of the poster and signed by THOMAS E. RODERICK (1892-1944). Roderick, who fought and was wounded in World War I and served in the Philippines, was Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations at Allied Force Headquarters in North Africa and was himself promoted to brigadier general in 1944. The signatures are largely unresearched, but include Brigadier E. J. FOORD who was with Strong at the Rheims surrender, Col. STEPHEN SEARLE HILL-DILLON, and others all worthy of research. Edge wear and a few stains, overall very good.
