WANG CHING-WEI
(1884-1944) Chinese revolutionary who in 1910 attempted to assassinate the prince regent and was sentenced to life in imprisonment. After the establishment of the Republic, Wang was released and made president of Chiang Kai-shek's administration council from 1932-1935. He deserted the nationalist government in 1938 and fled to Hong Kong, where he became strongly pro-Japanese. In 1939 he was made puppet ruler to China by the invading Japanese army. A copy of his volume China's Problems and their Solutions (Shanghai: United Press, 1934), an author's presentation copy inscribed and signed in Chinese script on the front free endpaper: "Dear Supkip - Kwai-wai Wang 32rd Dec.". Bound in the original blue morocco lettered in gilt. Corners bumped, scuffing to spine, light wear. Very good condition.
