Description:


(1884 - 1942) German field marshal who issued the notorious Severity Order making all Jews on the Eastern Front de facto partisans and subject to execution. He was also in charge of forces which helped to commit the massacre of Jews at Babi Yar. Great association A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Pallawa [?], Oct. 20, 1941, a friendly letter to then-Generalleutnant FRIEDRICH PAULUS, penned three months before Reichenau's death. He thanks Paulus for a previous phone call and a telegram, adding: 'I accept your offer and kindly ask you to forward this letter...' to an unidentified individual. One month later, Paulus would become General of the 6th Army and General der Panzertruppe, at Reichenau's recommendation. Original file holes and folds, two small stains, some edgewear at top and bottom, else fine. Sold with a period photograph, 4.5 x 5 in. sepia, showing Reichenau with Paulus and Bulgarian Tzar Boris III.
